A PLACE TO PLANT AND GROW

Our mission is to serve and uplift Indigenous communities through culturally grounded programs, education, outreach, and partnerships that honor and amplify Indigenous knowledge. We support the health and wellness of our Indigenous Peoples by offering programing, workshops, outreach and community-centered activities that nurture the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. We are committed to decolonizing spaces of learning and sharing by centering traditional practices that strengthen and benefit the collective. We foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where each individual is valued for who they are and where their spirit can grow and succeed. As a drug and alcohol-free center, we work in collaboration with Tribes, allies, organizations, and educational institutions to advance this work for present and future generations.

Ohketeau is dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary education through cultural workshops, dance, music, art, both indoor and outdoor activities that empower participants to fully express their talents. We believe that teaching and learning are rooted in reciprocity, where our shared interactions honor each individual's abilities while encouraging the exploration of new ways to express and sustain our culture.

In addition, our mission is to provide a safe, rewarding, and enriching environment for the Indigenous community of the region - one that nurtures creativity, strengthens cultural connections, and support the growth and well-being of all participants.

INDIGENOUS CULTERAL CENTER INITATIVE

Serving All Northeastern Tribal Communities

Building Community, Preserving Culture. Empowering Future Generations.

We have creating the first Indigenous-led cultural center in Western and Central Massachusetts, expanding on our work as the only Indigenous-led organization offering cultural programming on the North Shore.

This center will provide a vital space for Native peoples and allies to gather, learn, and grow-filling a longstanding gap in cultural, educational, and community resources across the region.

WHY THIS MATTERS

  • Native communities in New England lack dedicated cultural spaces
  • Youth need access to identity, tradition, and mentorship
  • Families deserve free, accessible programming rooted in culture
  • This center creates a permanent home for connection and growth
