$500 Goal

Raising $500 on Native Nonprofit Day will enable us to pay for two public domain allottees to attend our annual public domain allotments conference on May 30-31, 2025!

Last year, our first-ever public domain allotments conference gathered over 100 people from all over California, connecting allottees with each other and providing them technical assistance. It was a great success, and we look forward to continuing this work!

More information about our organizational leadership and goals is below.

The primary goal of CAPDAA is to educate and empower the Native public domain allotment community to become more aware of their rights and to protect the natural resources inherent within public domain allotments. These include water, minerals, forests, vegetation, animal life, grazing lands, rivers, and streams that naturally comprise the varied landscapes of allotments throughout California. Members of the public domain allotment community formed the California Public Domain Allottee Association (CAPDAA) in 2018 to help provide a unified and coherent voice for Native public domain. CAPDAA is a California nonprofit corporation and a tax-exempt charitable organization under Section501(c)(3) of the Federal Internal Revenue Code. We are honored to have an all-Native Board of Directors.

The specific objectives of CAPDAA include the following:

  • Document and describe the legal and physical status of each public domain allotment in California.
  • Establish baseline data that shows trends in the legal and physical status of the allotments over time to prevent mitigate or remedy emerging harms, risks, and threats. This includes law and environmental changes, and policy developments that threaten the allotment integrity and the community interests in them.
  • Develop political, legal, and environmental strategies for identifying threats to the Native allotment community especially those related to climate vulnerability and levels of relative fire risk and water depletion and contamination.

Your support enables us to carry out our grassroots work providing technical assistance to public domain allottees in California to steward their homelands.
