Oweesta Corporation

A nonprofit organization

For over 26 years, Oweesta Corporation has stood at the heart of the Native financial movement, advancing sovereignty, resilience, and self-determination through community-based finance. As the nation’s longest standing Native Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) intermediary, we channel capital, capacity, and confidence into the hands of Native Nations and Native-led organizations, fueling economic systems rooted in Indigenous values and community vision.

Building Wealth That Stays Home: Across Indian Country and Hawaiʻi, Oweesta has moved tens of millions of dollars into the hands of Native people, rural  America and the organizations that serve them. From homeownership to small business creation, from renewable energy to community infrastructure, every dollar invested in Oweesta helps Native people write and own their own economic stories.

When you give to Oweesta, you help us expand three pillars of Native economic power:
Capital Access: Deploying affordable, flexible financing through Native CDFIs to strengthen community economies.
Capacity Building: Providing technical training and leadership development so Native organizations can grow on their own terms.
Community-Led Change: Supporting projects designed by, for, and with Native communities, grounded in culture and collective purpose.

Cultivating Equity: For generations, wealth was extracted from Native lands and peoples. Oweesta is rewriting that story by putting capital back where it belongs. Your investment becomes thriving Native businesses, safe and affordable homes, renewable energy systems, and meaningful jobs. Together, we are creating economies that reflect the values of balance, reciprocity, and care for the land.

Creating Space for Native Possibility: Traditional financial institutions often overlook the strength, creativity, and potential of Native communities. Oweesta and the Native CDFIs we serve exist to change that narrative by creating a space that says “yes” to Native innovation. Through our low interest loan programs, Oweesta offers flexible, values-based financing that helps Native projects take root and grow, whether it’s a small business startup, a renewable energy project, or a first home.

Each loan is more than capital; it’s a vote of confidence. These tools help Native individuals and organizations build and repair credit, establish trust within financial systems, and open the doors to long term economic independence. Every repayment strengthens the cycle of community wealth, ensuring that future generations have access to the same opportunities.

Who We Serve: We work hand in hand with Native CDFIs, the economic backbones of their communities. These locally rooted organizations deliver access to capital, spark entrepreneurship, expand homeownership, and build systems of self-determination that uplift Native people for generations to come.

What We Do: Oweesta equips Native communities with the tools and training to transform loans into legacies. Our programs recognize that Native peoples have always been skilled resource managers, linking ancestral knowledge with modern financial practices to help communities thrive in ways that honor both people and place.
