Local Indians for Education

          For more than 50 years, LIFE Center has been a place where Indigenous youth and families in rural Northern California can learn, gather, connect with culture, and find support. Today, we need our community's help to ensure that work continues.

          Founded in 1972, Local Indians for Education, Inc. (LIFE Center) is an Indigenous-created and operated nonprofit and extended education center serving Indigenous people and families throughout Shasta County on Wintu, Pit River, and Yana homelands.

         For generations, LIFE Center has provided culturally grounded educational programs, youth development, family advocacy, cultural opportunities, community resources, and a safe place where Indigenous young people can feel seen, supported, and connected.

Today, LIFE Center is facing a critical funding gap.

           As existing grant funding comes to an end, community support is urgently needed to sustain our staff, facility, programs, and services while we build a more sustainable future—including the return of our nearly 40-year After-School Program.
