Natives in VetMed

A nonprofit organization

Natives in VetMed (NIVM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing Indigenous representation and leadership in veterinary medicine. Founded by Indigenous veterinary students and professionals, NIVM was created to build community, mentorship, and visibility for Native voices in a field where less than 0.2% of veterinarians identify as Indigenous. Our mission is to amplify Indigenous perspectives in animal care, connect Native students and professionals across the country, and ensure that Indigenous communities have access to culturally informed veterinary services. Through mentorship programs, student support, and outreach clinics serving tribal nations, NIVM works to bridge the gap between veterinary science and Indigenous knowledge systems. We envision a future where Indigenous veterinarians, technicians, and animal health professionals lead the way in serving their own communities, strengthening animal health, public health, and cultural wellbeing. Every donation directly supports our efforts to grow this network, expand educational opportunities, and bring veterinary care to underserved tribal areas across Turtle Island.
