From humble beginnings in southwestern Oklahoma in 1976, UNITY has grown into a powerful Native and Indigenous youth movement with participating youth across the United States and international Indigenous communities.
What began with a handful of inspired Native youth in Oklahoma has grown into a vibrant international Indigenous network, with UNITY youth councils and participants representing Tribal and Indigenous communities across Turtle Island and beyond.
Born in 1976 from the vision of Cherokee founder J.R. Cook, UNITY now connects Native and Indigenous youth leaders from across the U.S. and international Indigenous communities, celebrating 50 years of shared leadership and cultural pride.
Since 2013, UNITY has called Mesa, Arizona home, guided by Executive Director Mary Kim Titla, whose leadership continues to elevate Native youth voices on a national stage.
Today, Native American youth in UNITY are transforming their own lives while strengthening their Nations through year-round service and advocacy.
They build confidence, resilience, and real-world leadership skills as they host cultural gatherings, promote mental and physical wellness, and address critical issues like language loss and suicide prevention.
With every youth-led initiative, donors’ gifts ripple outward as young people find their voice, uplift their families, and create healthier, more hopeful communities for generations to come.
