The Committee of 500 Years was founded to challenge not only harmful Native imagery in Ohio, but also the widespread misunderstandings of Indigenous histories, cultures, and identities. As part of a broader coalition, we worked for the retirement of the Cleveland Major League Baseball mascot and team name - a critical step toward deeper understanding and respect for Indigenous Peoples.
Now, we’re building on that progress.
Through public speaking events across the state, we bring communities the education they may not find in schools. We share Indigenous histories, knowledges, and ongoing struggles that are too often silenced or overlooked—especially as public education faces increasing teaching constraints.
Grounded in mutual respect, access, and communal traditions, our speaking events are free to attend. They create space for real conversation, deeper understanding, and community-led change.
Help us continue our mission of resistance and dignity. Your contribution will help ensure that Indigenous voices are heard and respected, and that the fight for cultural justice continues. Donations help us:
- Rent venues and provide materials
- Cover travel costs
- Print educational handouts
- Offer food and hospitality
- Reach underserved communities
Let’s make sure Ohioans can still learn the full story.
Help us bring Indigenous voices to the forefront.
