At the TM Mikinaak Ode Center, we are the first program of its kind on the reservation, 100% Native-led and staffed, serving homeless and at-risk individuals and families across our rural communities. Because our clients are majority Native, many are understandably distrustful of state and federal programs, and we help bridge those gaps, guiding them through services because we are informed, culturally aware, and know how to connect effectively with our people. Every day, we act as a bridge and translator of services, helping community members access housing, healthcare, food programs, and other vital resources. With limited local support available, our Center works tirelessly to make sure that no one is turned away, and that everyone receives the help they need to survive and thrive.
In our rural area, resources are scarce, so we are motivated to connect our clients with everything available to help them move forward and sustain themselves. Our support is practical and direct. We help with paying rent, covering application fees, purchasing essential items like mailboxes, providing basic needs and hygiene items, transportation, and assisting with IDs, birth certificates, and other vital documents. We also hold monthly food drives and try to organize fundraisers throughout the year to support our programs and reach more community members in need. By offering all these services in one place with consistent follow-through, we make sure community members are not just connected to programs, they actually receive the support needed to stay safe, stable, and empowered.
Every day, our team sees the difference that comprehensive support makes: families able to maintain housing, youth and adults accessing education and employment, elders receiving care, and individuals regaining stability after hardship. Your donation can directly prevent homelessness, hunger, and unsafe living conditions in our rural communities, helping people not just survive, but move forward.
We’re seeking support to keep our programs and outreach efforts going strong, providing ongoing care, advocacy, and services that strengthen our community year-round.
