In November, we celebrated 15 years of tireless work protecting animals on the Lake Traverse Reservation! And today we celebrate South Dakota Gives and #GiveNative!
Born out of the community and led by Native voices, the Lake Traverse Animal Rezcue's mission began in November 2010 during a crisis when a tribal housing ban threatened the lives of countless dogs. We sprang into action, rounding up strays and transporting them to safety. We contested the ruling launched a petition, and succeeded in getting the ban rescinded.
But we knew true, long-term change required more than just crisis response. That's why, in August 2011, we held our first spay/neuter clinic. Since that day, we have been committed to providing these essential services to residents for free or reduced cost. These clinics are made possible through your generous donations, fundraising efforts, and, in recent years, grants.
Why Your Gift on South Dakota Gives Day is Vital:
Equity Matters: Native-led nonprofits, while serving nearly 3% of the U.S. population, currently receive less than 0.3% of foundation dollars. Your direct donation helps close this funding gap and supports change driven by the community.
Maximize Impact: Support us through South Dakota Gives and Give Native Day, and help us secure crucial prizes, just like we did in past years!
Every dollar you donate goes directly to saving lives, purchasing food and supplies, providing emergency medical care, and funding our next spay/neuter clinic.
Help us make the next 15 years even better for the animals of the Lake Traverse Reservation. Donate today!
