Support Our Rezcue. Protect Our People.

We are proud to stand as a beacon of safety and animal welfare for Native Nonprofit Day, today, Thursday, May 21st, 2026.

There is a quiet crisis across many reservations in the US. Since 2020, 16 people across the country have lost their lives to dog bites on reservations. These are preventable tragedies, and Lake Traverse Animal Rezcue is proving that dedicated, local action works.

15 Years of Proven Results

Our strategy is built on humane population control and community safety. For 15 years, we have worked to prevent the tragedies seen elsewhere, and our impact is measurable:

  • We Manage the Population: We have humanely removed over 6,400 animals from the Lake Traverse Reservation, by taking animals handed over by tribal, city and county authorities as well as owner surrenders, easing the burden on our community.

  • Strategic Partnerships: Once rescued, we transfer these animals to our trusted rescue partners who specialize in rehoming, ensuring every animal gets the specialized care and the forever family they deserve.

  • Massive Preventative Care: We have performed over 6,500 spay/neuter surgeries for both dogs and cats. This comprehensive approach to population control is the most effective way to ensure long-term safety.

  • Targeting the Risk: While we fix both males and females, we know that the dogs most likely to bite are intact males. Our surgical programs directly reduce this risk.

  • A Perfect Safety Record: Because of these sustained, front-line efforts spanning over a decade and a half, we have not had a single death on the Lake Traverse Reservation. Our community is safer because of this consistent work.

Closing the Philanthropic Gap

Your donation is vital because of a massive funding disparity. Despite the life-saving nature of this work, Native-led nonprofits receive just 0.2% of all philanthropic funding.

We are a Native-led rezcue doing essential work on a fraction of the budget. Every dollar you give provides the surgeries and resources we need to keep our community and our animals safe.

Donate & Win: Help Us Keep the Streak Alive!

When you support us, you also get a chance to help us win big. We’re on a winning streak!

ONLINE GIVING IS OPEN NOW THROUGH MAY 29th.

Any donation of $5 or more will put our name into a special prize drawing. We have won prizes at the last two events! Help us make it a hat-trick with three in a row so we can put even more resources back into the rezcue.

Please support Lake Traverse Animal Rezcue this Native Nonprofit Day. Your donation helps us keep saving lives—both human and animal.
